I remember begging my father for a dog for months on end until finally he caved in. Unbeknownst to me, my father & brother went to the Humane Society and adopted a puppy for me. She was a mixed breed , had red fur, little floppy ears and big brown eyes. I named her Maggie.
Maggie turned out to be the most unique, intelligent, funny and one of the best dogs and friend I ever had. Maggie lived to be the ripe old age of 21.
If you do the math, I was eight years old when I got Maggie and now I’m fifty eight. I’ve raised dogs for fifty years!! Oh my!
Through the years I’ve had a chow chow, eight Samoyeds, mixed breeds, a Pomeranian, and for the last 20 years or so I’ve been raising Newfoundlands.
If you’ve never met a Newfy, they are the kindest, funniest, most empathetic and gentlest dog that I’ve ever known.
They can be stubborn in silly ways, they are great babysitters, they are very compatible with other animals and are all around clowns of the dog world.
Here’s a few pictures of a typical grooming day and two of my must have grooming items for the dogs.

The dryer above is really an essential & useful tool for any type of dog especially a thick coated dog. The power of the dryer and the speed are lifesavers! This also goes a long way in preventing hotspots. Damp hair creates the perfect environment for potential bacteria & future hotspots. The dryer is a great tool to prevent that.
Even if you are not a professional groomer, you need scissors. The thinning shears are one of the most useful tools. The get rid of unwanted hair without leaving obvious lines or mistakes! Lol. There are plenty of really good videos online to watch to teach yourself at least the beginning stage of grooming.
Finally, some of my dogs over the years.
I know there are so many dog lovers out there! Some of my future posts I’ll show how to make your own healthy dog food recipes & treats !

Xo, Erin
